My technical skills have improved the most directly in the areas where i can see the affect it will have on the final image. Lens based imaginary is one of the best examples, once I had an understanding of how aperture and shutter speed can physically shape the digital outcome, I learnt to translate these outcomes into deliberate creative choices. This allowed me to experiment with the depth of field and motion blur, without replying on trial and error. Colour Management help by recognising how white balance and colour space, can effects the end result, at times making it possible to achieve certain looks within Lightroom.
My weaker areas in my knowledge is my understanding and fluency of tools such as Lightroom, Photoshop and After Effects. My skills still remain surface level, still able to execute specific workflows to create a desired image but I have not built the knowledge to create unique designs every-time. For example, when compositing and animating, I can use tools such as layers, mask, and blending options but combining these tools I still need more time to develop a workflow.
An ongoing challenge was timing and pacing within motion design. After experimenting with frame duration and keyframes in After Effects, it taught me that pacing can communicate much more than content does but I am still learning how to deliberately create an desire effect rather than finding out on export. Database management was an unexpected strength throughout this entire assignment. Through simple practices such as, maintaining a consistent database structure , creating insightful file names, and understanding file states through there extension (RAW,PSD,GIF,MP4), made the technical side of the assignment much more feasible and left more time for creative experimentation.
